Autobiography of Maj. Gen. Tilak Paranagama
An autobiography of Major General (ret.) Tilak Paranagama, VSP, USP titled- DESTINY- My life in the Army will be launched today (11) at 4.30 pm at the Rock House Camp Auditorium, Colombo 15. Paranagama is also the President of Royal Commonwealth Society of Sri Lanka (RCSSL).
The Chief Guest at the Book Launch will be Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, the only Lankan Nobel Peace prize winner and the Guest of Honour is J.C. Logesweran, former Governor, Western Province.
The book portrays the distinguished military life of Maj. Gen. Paranagama who has titled his narratives ‘My life in the Army’ which he considers his ‘destiny’. The story is a complete narrative of the life of a soldier, from Trooper to General. As the reader travels through this memoir of a life journey, there are many lessons to be learnt. It is an inspirational story that would serve an ideal guide, a manual that every officer of today should read. This exemplifies many facets of life that Gen. Tilak has experienced, both exciting and sometimes disappointing. The reader senses his devotion, integrity and commitment to service and performance. His brother in Arms, Major Ranjan Senanayaka has hailed General Paranagama as one with the essence of discipline and moral conduct of such high order- that he is the embodiment of a quintessential officer and a gentleman. “The achievements, operational, administrative and academic are of the very highest standard” This is evidenced from the service records in the attachments section. It is an outstanding fact that that his performance on course in the US Army has been recorded as “Brilliant” by a US General. As his brother in Arms he further describes-; “General Paranagama has been hailed as a proud son of Armour, A great Cavalryman, in your Destiny you fulfilled the Armour Motto “Wither the fates call”.
