Attanayake wants Sajith appointed UNP leader
BY CYRIL WIMALASURENDRE
KANDY –
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP and former General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake told the media in Kandy yesterday that SLPP easily won a two-thirds majority owing to the disunity in the UNP.
Talking to journalists after taking part in a religious programme, Attanayake said that if the UNPers wanted to defeat the government, they had to re-unite.
“It is of paramount importance that UNP replaced its current leadership. The most qualified and suitable leader is the leader of the SJB Sajith Premadasa.”
The UNP would have no future unless Premadasa was appointed its leader, Attanayake said.
“The results of the August 05 general election has clearly shown that the UNP has no future under the present leadership.”
