State Minister says politically-motivated mud-slinging campaign against him

State Minister Indika Anuruddha told Parliament yesterday that allegations related to an attack on an Omani investor were part of a politically motivated mud-slinging campaign against him.

Responding to questions raised in Parliament over the attack on the Omani Investor, allegedly involving his Secretary and a group of others, State Minister Anuruddha said: “Job losses related to the factory were not due to this particular incident. This was due to the losses incurred as a result of another prominent company having left Sri Lanka. This factory was declared open during the Yahapalana government. There are no allegations that I extorted money,” he said

Meanwhile, Public Security Ministry sources said that the Omani investor of an apparel factory in Katana who was assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals in March had decided not to leave Sri Lanka.

The assurance had been given during a discussion between the investor and the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles on Tuesday (09).

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the manager of the factory had also participated in the discussion which took place at his ministry.

Minister Alles said he had informed Omani Investor that the Public Security Ministry would ensure the safety of the latter and that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had issued an order to that effect.

The Omani Investor informed Minister Alles he had decided not to close down the operations of the factory or leave Sri Lanka.
