Following a decrease in COVID-19 infections among children, two wards reserved for coronavirus cases at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) had been released for treatment of other illnesses, Dr. Deepal Perera told the media yesterday.

The number of children treated for coronavirus at the LRH has dropped to 15. Thus, they could use two wards to treat children with other illnesses.

Soon, the remaining children could be transferred to the IDH, the paediatrician said.

At the height of the recent COVID wave around 200 children stricken with the disease were treated at LRH.

Dr. Perera said that while the number of COVID-19 cases had dropped, there was an increase in the number of children stricken with dengue.
