Arushi, Dinara, Oneli keep hosts’ unbeaten status alive
Arushi Thomas, Dinara de Silva and Oneli Samarawickrama won their respective matches against Mongolia to keep hosts’ unbeaten status alive in the fourteen and under girls’ competition of the ITF World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania Pre Qualifying round continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Tuesday.
Like in the boys’ segment where the hosts won all three matches on Monday, the girls too registered victories in all their matches.
In the two singles matches, Arushi Thomas and Dinara de Silva beat their Mongolian counterparts comprehensively, before the latter joined Samarawickrama to make it three in a row, winning the doubles.
Thomas beat Khongorzul Aldarkhishig 6-1, 6-0 and De Silva beat Oyungerel Khasbaatar 6-0, 6-2.
In the doubles, the Sri Lankan pair beat Khongorzul Aldarkhishig and Oyungerel Khasbaatar 6-3, 6-0.
The hosts’ girls’ team will next meet Singapore in their last Group ‘B’ encounter, while the boys’ team are scheduled to meet Pakistan in their Group ‘A’ encounter. On Monday they beat Mongolia.
In the girls’ category, Nepal, Jordan and Oman compete in Group ‘A’, while Pakistan, Iran and Iraq battle it out in Group ‘C’.
There are 13 teams taking part in the boys’ category. The four groups are as follows: Group ‘A’- Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Group ‘B’- Nepal, Malaysia, Iran, Group ‘C’- Saudi Arabia, Syria, Singapore, Group ‘D’- Jordan, Iraq, Cambodia, Laos.
