Artificial ‘turmeric’ taken into custody from a grocer at Hunnasgiriya
BY CYRIL WIMALASURENDRE KANDY –
The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) officials in Kandy raided a grocery store in Hunnasgiriya in Udadumbara and detected a large stock of artificial turmeric that was meant to be sold to consumers. The turmeric was believed to have been made from some yellow coloured powder.
The stock of powder was taken into custody and samples of it were sent to the Government Analyst for testing. The CPA officials said the suspects would be prosecuted once the report was available. The raiding team of the Kandy Consumer Protection Authority was led by head of the unit Samantha Athapattu on the directions of Kandy District Secretary Tissa Karunaratne.
