Task already achieved in North

State Minister of Ornamental Fish, Inland Fish and Prawn Farming, Fishery Harbour Development, Multi- day Fishing Activities and Fish Exports Kanchana Wijesekera said that discarded boats, buses and train compartments purchased from the Sri Lanka Transport Board and the Sri Lanka Railway were being dumped off the coast to create more fish breeding grounds.

Wijesekera said that fish breeding grounds had already been established off the Northern coast and establishing fish breeding grounds off the coast of Galle would commence today (27).

The artificial reefs would attract tourists and be a deterrent to illegal bottom trawling in Sri Lanka’s coastal waters, he said.
