Army readies for any eventuality amidst a turbulent period

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage has announced that the military has initiated preliminary arrangements to streamline the organizational structure, operational deployment and concept of operation to face possible challenges.

The Army Chief stressed the importance of constantly reviewing the progress of ongoing projects and making efforts to achieve objectives, in a stipulated timeline, amidst, what he called, a turbulent period.

Lt. Gen. Liyanage was addressing officers and men at the Army Headquarters, at Sri Jayewardenepura, on Monday (02), on the first working day of 2023. The Army Chief recently received a one-year extension that would allow him to serve in the top post, till Dec 31 this year.

During his address, Lt. Gen. Liyanage emphasized their responsibility to act in the face of threats to national security, whenever there were such challenges. He urged commanders at all levels to maintain combat readiness and be prepared to face any eventuality.

The Army Commander appreciated the role played by his officers and men to bring the situation under control, following the recent crises. (SF)
