Fisheries Minister and EPDP leader Douglas Devananda recently said that following his discussions with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a decision has ben taken to release some of the lands occupied by the Army in North Walkamam, to their rightful owners.

Prior to a ministarial meeting the Minister told journalists that the said lands would be released to their original owners around September.

Devananda said the Army had occupied around 4,000 acres of land in the area, which had been abandoned by the owners during the civil strife and half of that had been already released to the rightful owners.

He said that he was not in a position yet to mention the extent of the land that would be released but officials are in the process of studying the maps and identifying the specific lands.
