Army personnel were deployed at all fuel stations run by the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation from yesterday to ensure fair distribution of fuel, including gas, amidst the shortage that led to long queues.

Military spokesman Nilantha Premaratna said that military personnel had also been deployed to maintain law and order.

He said two soldiers each were deployed at every fuel filling station.

Three people have died at filling stations.

The government has assured that fuel would be distributed efficiently.

The country is facing a fuel shortage due to a foreign exchange crisis which the government says is being resolved by seeking economic relief from friendly nations. (RK)
