Arjuna blasts govt. for closing down Palaly International Airport
By Dinasena Ratugamage
Former Minister of Shipping, Transport and Civil Aviation, Arjuna Ranatunga said that he was disappointed with the government for closing down the Palaly International Airport. Opening the airport would have allowed people of the North to travel to India easily, he said.
Ranatunga, who is on a visit to the North, said that such decisions had made the government universally unpopular.
“We established the Palaly International Airport to boost the economy of the North. If it had functioned, a lot of people would have benefited. However, the people now do not even have the facilities that were available during the war,” he said.
