Are Covid rules applicable to all …in our paradise island?

Believe me, this question pops up quite frequently, from my readers, especially when they check out social media, and also watch the news on TV.

We all know that law enforcement authorities are taking a tough stand against health regulation violators, and no one would disagree, or find fault with the rules implemented.

Many have been arrested for not wearing face masks, not maintaining physical distancing, etc., and police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana has warned of tougher action against violators of health regulations

We have seen it happening…on TV…where people, who do not wear face masks in public places, are bundled into police vehicles, and hauled up before courts.

But…readers are keen to know whether this rule applies to all, or is it ONLY for ordinary people!

Quite a few readers have brought to my attention a recent event held, in Moratuwa, where a particular road was named after a popular Sinhala artiste.

There is no qualms about that. Yes, it’s heartening to see a legendary artiste being recognised, in a special way. But, it was quite evident that some of the folks, participating in this particular event, didn’t adhere to the current health regulations – no face masks, and no social distancing. Even the artiste concerned did it his way! And, that is setting a very bad example, they say.

Where were the law enforcement officers, and why didn’t they act? Over to you DIG Ajith Rohana for a suitable explanation…to appease some of our worried readers.

Another question asked, frequently, revolves around teledramas where the shooting of new episodes continue…unabated.

Can Covid health regulations be implemented in such a setup, where there is dialogue (no face masks), and action (no social distancing).

I’m told that certain individuals, connected with the teledrama scene, did test positive for Covid-19, and that there was a temporary break, at that point in time.

It’s imperative that health rules, connected with Covid-19, are adhered to by everyone…in our paradise island.

There should be no two sets of rules.
