Archeologists find largest inscription in the country at Dimbulagala; about 45 feet long and 18 feet high
Archeological officials on Thursday (09) said that they have discovered the largest inscription ever found in the country.They claim that the detection was made by the Polonnaruwa Archeology Office at the historic Dimbulagala Monastery grounds.
This discovery was made by officers attached to the Inscriptions Section of the Archeology Department Head Office and the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Survey Team, Polonnaruwa Archeology Department Assistant Director M.G. Ratnapala told journalists.
It will take more than a month to copy the inscription, Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanadhipa Ven. Dimbulagala Rahulalankara Thera said.The inscription is about 45 feet long and 18 feet high, and it is not possible to exactly say to which era this inscription belongs to, he said.According to Ven. Rahulalankara Thera it will take another month for the archaeologists to make an official announcement about it.
