Benjy Ranabahu and his band, Aquarius, have been missing from the local scene for quite a while now.
Yes, they decided to take a hiatus, because of the problems in the setup here where the showbiz scene has been badly affected.
“What kept us away from performing was the inability for us to practice, as a band, due to the power cuts, transport difficulty, etc,” said Benjy.
And, where Benjy is concerned ‘practice makes perfect’ and he wasn’t prepared to give the public anything short of ‘perfect.’
Aquarius had work coming their way, including wedding functions, etc., but they decided to keep away from public performances, due to lack of practice.
With the problems, confronting the showbiz scene, showing no signs of abating, Beny, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, July 24th, says that he now wants to make his trip to England a reality.
“My trip to England was planned a few months back and now I’m very keen to go…to meet my family and friends.”
According to the dynamic bassist, he will go to England, spend about a month in that part of the world, and then return and work on an overseas contract.
A friend (foreigner), who plays an important role in a hotel in the Middle East, has indicated to that he would like to have Benjy and his band in their scene.
When asked if there is a possibility of the band doing anything locally, he said it depends on the situation here.
“If there is some activity, during the festive period, then maybe we will do our thing here, as well.”
Aquarius went through many phases in their career and had many dynamic lineups, including female vocalists from the Philippines, and the Maldives.
