Apna, Dinethya win maiden hard court singles tennis titles

Apna Perera and Dinethya Dharmarathne won the men’s and women’s singles titles of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association conducted Hard Court Nationals 2023 as they won their respective finals on Wednesday.

Visakha Vidyalaya player Dharmarathne beat Janali Manamperi 7-6, 6-1 in the women’s singles final to claim her title. In the quarter-final, she beat Nesangi Hemakumara (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) before recording 6-0, 6-2 win over Tuvini de Alwis in the semi-final.

In the men’s singles final, Ananda College player Perera beat Kiran Viravanathan 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 to win his maiden title. On his way to the final Perera beat number two seed Thehan Wijemanne (6-3, 6-1) in the quarter-final before edging out Thangaraja Dineshkanthan (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) in the semi-final.
