FAO and Agri Min MoU on distribution of fertilizer
Food and Agriculture Organization Representative for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Vimlendra Sharan and the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rohana Pushpakumara, in the presence of Agriculture Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday regarding the beneficiary selection and distribution of fertilizer to paddy farmers in Sri Lanka.
As the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, through the support of its partners, is procuring Urea and Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertilizers to improve the production of the upcoming cultivation seasons and strengthen food security in Sri Lanka. The MoU provides a framework for the selection of beneficiaries and distribution of the essential agricultural inputs for paddy farmers in Sri Lanka through the Ministry of Agriculture.
The FAO of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. It helps countries modernize and strengthen agriculture, forestry, and fisheries practices, making them more sustainable and ensuring food security and nutrition for all. FAO focuses special attention on developing rural areas, home to the majority of the world’s poor and hungry people.
