Anura Rohana leads the way
SLGU Golf Ranking Tournament -January 2022
Anura Rohana excelled leading the pack each day returning impressive scores of 68,71,73 and 76 at the Sri Lanka Gold Union initiated ranking tournament concluded on January 28.
The ranking tournaments are open to both amateur and professional golfers who will be in training to peak at the Asian Games in September 2022. The four-round tournament held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course from January 25 had over 50 golfers teeing off.
Rahana was followed by R.K. Prabagaran (Professional from Nuwara Eliya) 71,73,77 and 71, and M.U. Chanaka Perera, the last Sri Lanka Amateur Championship winner 74,72,73 and 78. Others who chased the leaders down were Vijitha Bandara (Professional from Kandy) coming at number four and Uchitha Akash Ranasinghe (Amateur) at number five.
Kaya Daluwatte came at the top in the Ladies Division with scores of 89, 84, 91 and 80. Kaya is widely considered a better golfer than what the scores indicated, and is expected to perform better during the next few Ranking Tournaments which will be held at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course and The Royal Colombo Golf Course shortly.
The National Squad, Development Squad, as well as the Emerging Squads, are in training to be in consideration for selection to represent the country at the forthcoming International Tournaments. Sri Lanka Golf Union said in a statement that it was confident of medal prospects at the Asian Games.
Sri Lanka Golf initiated the ranking tournaments to bring the nation’s top golfers up to speed to be in the best form to take part in the forthcoming International Tournaments which includes the Asian Games to be held in China later this year.
