Another crowd-puller coming up!

Sing-along events have always been crowd-pullers, in the scene here. But…it all ended when the pandemic destroyed the entire setup.

I remember the pre-pandemic sing-along evenings, organised by Rhythm World, headed by Shiromi Perera.

They used to have it on a regular basis and drew a very enthusiastic crowd.

Sohan & The X-Periments, with Trishelle, were, in fact, the drawcards at these Rhythm World sing-along events.

Sohan has that special knack of getting the audience totally involved in the sing-along sessions, and many of the guests go ga-ga when they find themselves a star, for one night…with Sohan’s assistance, of course!

Yes, there are a few who huff and puff, facing the mic, but that’s only natural – mic fright!

Moreover, sing-along events are extra special to many because the whole family can enjoy themselves, unlike a dance where children have to be kept, at home.

Although the Covid pandemic seems to be no more a deterrent to the entertainment scene here, the economy crisis has taken its toll and it’s tough going for many.

However, Dushyantha M.Dias Abeyegunawardene, of Symphony (Pvt.) Ltd., has decided to celebrate their 39 years in the music industry with a very special event – ‘Songs from Yesteryear.’ And, he has turned this occasion into a fun-raiser.

It’s a musical extravaganza, plus sing-along show, and will feature several well-known performers, with Sohan & The X-Periments, along with Trishelle, doing the needful.

Guest stars will include Mignonne (of Jetliners fame), Radhika, Clifford Richard, Malithra, Rhapsody, and Daria (from the Ukraine).

The scheduled date is Friday, August 19th (2022), at the BMICH Banquet Hall.

The evening’s proceedings will be handled by Faizal Bongso and Sounthi Thvam, and will move into action from 7.30 pm onwards.

According to Dushyantha, there will be a whole lot of prizes, and surprises, including a bail completion which will wind up the evening’s entertainment.

The proceeds from this show, says Dushyantha, will be donated to the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.

With very little entertainment, in the scene here, at the present moment, ‘Songs of Yesteryear’ should be a crowd-puller.
