Anjalika, Chathurya win Under 18 singles titles for the third time at Colombo Championships

Chathurya Nilaweera clinched his third consecutive Under 18 boys’ singles title, and Anjalika Kurera reclaimed the Under 18 singles girls’ title as the Colombo Championships 2021 continued in Colombo.

The Stafford International School player beat Dilvan Herath 4-1, 4-1 yesterday to complete the hat trick of titles following his victories in 2019 and 2020. The 16-year-old beat Wenuka Kithnula 4-2, 4-0 in the quarter- final before recording 4-0, 4-2 win against Hasal Ahangama in the semi-final.

On Sunday Kurera, who was also the winner of the 2018 and 2019 tournaments beat Vishmi Serasinghe 4-2, 4-2 to clinch her third title. Kurera did not compete last year.

She overcame a fist set defeat by Hasali Gajaba to win the semi-final 2-1 (2-4, 4-1, 4-1). In the quarter-final she beat Neyara Weerawansa 4-1, 4-1.
