Anika singles champion, Savith, Vibuda win doubles title

105th Colombo Championships

National champion Anika Seneviratne claimed her second consecutive top level singles title as she beat her usual finals rival Savini Jayasuriya in the women’s singles final of the 105th Colombo Championships at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association clay courts on Saturday.

Seneviratne beat Jayasuriya 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the finals. It was also her second singles title at the Colombo championship. Last month she beat Jayasuriya for her women’s national singles title.

In the men’s doubles final, Savit Weerasinghe and Vibuda Wijebandara beat reigning national doubles champions Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne.

Weerasinghe and Wijebandara scored 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 to beat the pair who won the national doubles title last month.

The men’s singles final and the women’s doubles final of this championship will be played today. (RF)
