Ambassador felicitates voluntary Korean language teachers

In celebration of the Day of hangeul (Korean letter) at the Korean Embassy, Ambassador Woonjin Jeong recently presented Letters of Appreciation to four Sri Lankan voluntary teachers who offer their services at the Korea Corner located at the Public Library in Colombo. Hangeul Day which was held on the 9th of October commemorates the invention and proclamation of the Korean alphabet and honours the excellence of the script.

The ambassador had the pleasure to greet the Korean language teachers who are voluntarily engaged in offering Korean language lessons at the Public Library. Colombo Public Library, which is located in the vicinity of Viharamahadevi Park, is one of the country’s most prominent libraries. In 2014, the Korea Corner was established with the support of the Korean embassy. Korea Corner also plays a role as Korean Culture Centre in Colombo as it is promotes high-quality people to people exchanges and cultural exchanges between Sri Lanka and Korea.

At the Korea Corner, Korean books and videos are available at free of charge. Korean language classes are also offered including three beginner’s classes and one intermediate class every Friday and Saturday. Currently, four Sri Lankan students who have completed the course, conduct classes for the beginners in Korean language. They are Ms. Nadeesha Jayasooriya, Ms. Nilusha Jayasooriya, Ms. K.D.Samadhi Sankalpana Kirirbathgoda, Ms. Liyanage Manjula Malkanthi who were guided by Ms. Kwon Jung Min.
