Aluthgamage berates CC
SLPP MP and former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, on Tuesday, requested the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to buy mosquito coils for the latter’s mother, Hema Premadasa, before talking about rebuilding the country.
Participating in the debate on the Civil Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, the MP said Hema Premadasa had sent a letter to the Accountant of the Presidential Secretariat on 20 September requesting mosquito coils, two blue pens, bottles of gun, half-sheets, file covers, etc.
The MP also said that he could table the letter in Parliament.
“We are thankful to the Subject Minister for changing the laws in a timely manner. The current Minister of Justice brought the Anti-Corruption Act. Although steps have been taken to implement this Act since September, it has not been possible till today. Due to an inefficient Constitutional Council, the laws passed by Parliament have not been implemented.
No new members have been appointed to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption as well. z”It is sad to say that the current Constitutional Council is the most ineffective body in the history of Parliament. The Prime Minister, the Speaker and the Leader of the Opposition are accused of this because they are members of the Constitutional Assembly. If this Constituent Assembly does not function, it should be dissolved,” MP Aluthgamage said.
