All nano-nitrogen fertiliser consignments to be airlifted to avoid delays

KANDY –

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said at Gannoruwa, Peradeniya on Monday that nano nitrogen fertiliser would be airlifted to avoid delays.

Minister Aluthgamage said that another consignment of the fertiliser was expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday 01.

The fertiliser was capable of providing the highest yield to the farmer, the minister said at the distribution of seeds and agricultural equipment to home garden cultivators in the Kandy region, the minister said.

The event was held at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre (PGRC) Gannoruwa.

Minister Aluthgamage said that usage of carbonic fertiliser in agriculture in the country would not be given up under any circumstances and if any loss in agriculture was suffered by using carbonic fertiliser the affected farmers would be compensated.

The distribution of seeds and agriculture tools would benefit over 1.2 million home garden owners of the country, the minister added.

State Minister Indika Anuruddha, National Housing Development Authority Chairman Duminda Silva, Agriculture Ministry Secretary Prof Uditha K. Jayasinghe, and Commissioner of Agrarian Services M.M.L. Abeyratne were present on the occasion.
