AKD: Ranil cannot intimidate public
By Saman Indrajith
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Saturday said President Ranil Wickremesinghe was not young enough to instill fear among protesters rising against the government.
Addressing a rally, held at the Ananda Samarakoon open air theatre, Dissanayake said Wickremesinghe would not be able to retain the presidency by resorting to coercion. “People are joining the Aragalaya to end the present rule. The government has the backing of 134 MPs who have lost the mandate to remain in Parliament. We have removed the head of a corrupt regime, and now with the help of political rejects, similar to him, Wickremesinghe is propping up the corrupt government. There are two groups in our society.
One comprising hundreds of thousands of people demands a system change. The other group comprises Wickremesinghe, his 134 MPs and a coterie of crooks. Time will show who will prevail,” Dissanayake said.
“We do not recognise Wickremesinghe as the President. He must step down and dissolve Parliament allowing people to elect a new government. He is planning to stay on power for three more years. He will not be able to do so.
