Airport PCR Lab in IT hiccup to resume operations today
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The PCR laboratory established recently at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) as a joint venture by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (PVT) Limited, and a private company, would recommence operations by today, President of the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS), Ravi Kumudesh told The Island yesterday.
There was an issue over emailing PCR reports to those who got tested, Kumudesh said. Until it was sorted out, samples would be sent to another state-owned lab at the Airport, he said.
Kumudesh said the latter had been established at the BIA in May 2020 and that until Sunday (27) none of the samples taken from tourists had been sent to that PCR laboratory, for almost 16 months. He said that PCR tests on tourists were conducted at a private hospital which made a killing.
