Air Force to foster strong bonds with Jaffna as it celebrates 73rd anniversary

Reconstruction of 73 schools among planned activities

The Northern Governor P.S.M. Charles’ Office announced that the 73rd anniversary of the SLAF is scheduled to be held in Jaffna on March 02, 2024.The announcement was made following talks between SLAF Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa and the Northern Governor at her official residence in Jaffna on Wednesday (13).

A statement issued by the Northern Governor’s Office quoted Air Marshal Rajapaksa as having said that to mark the 73rd anniversary gas turbine aircraft engines would be provided to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Jaffna and learning aids for the students of the University. The SLAF Chief also declared 73 schools would be reconstructed in the Jaffna district. The SLAF would also donate 73,000 Tamil and English language books to schools.

In addition to previously mentioned activities, the SLAF intends organising a general medical camp, dental surgery camp, an eye treatment camp, distribution of free spectacles, blood donation camp and distribution of 73 thousand tree saplings to beplanted to combat climate change, a cycle race, an educational exhibition and an evening concert.

The Northern Governor has stressed that such activities promote ethnic harmony and unity. The statement quoted her as having said that attention should be paid to provide sufficient toilet and drinking water facilities when the SLAF undertook reconstruction of schools. She has also requested to provide industrial training for university students.
