Air Force stand by for any disaster situation due to inclement weather
The Air Force (SLAF) is on stand by to face any emergency that may occur in the country due to the adverse weather conditions. According to the data of Meteorological Department, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) has informed that there may be a risk of floods and landslides in several provinces of the island in view of the adverse weather conditions that may occur due to the low atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka.
As per DMC advisory, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana has given instructions to prepare the aircrafts and related troops to be ready for relief and rescue operations.
SLAF surveillance planes to constantly monitor the future disaster situations from the air, as well as Air Force helicopters to provide relief and rescue operations to the people in the event of a disaster, and specially trained Air Force troops for rescue are standing by to assist, the Air Force said.
