AG’s opinion sought on taking legal action against those refusing to be vaccinated
Health authorities have sought the Attorney General’s advice on whether legal action could be instituted against those who refuse to take the anti-COVID vaccine. This was revealed yesterday (29) during the meeting of the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control held via video link.
Medical experts said there were legal provisions to take such action.
It was decided that current inter-provincial travel restrictions would be lifted after 4.00 am on October 31. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that the decision had been taken for the convenience of the commuting public.
It was announced that steps had been taken to conduct the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level classes in schools. The President said principals should take necessary steps to start schools.
The President also directed the health and education authorities to look into the possibility of commencing academic activities for the first year students of the universities. It was also decided to take steps to make the vaccination card compulsory.
The Provincial Health Directors told the President that false propaganda carried out by various groups about the vaccination had dissuaded some people from taking the vaccine. The President instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct an investigation.
