After claims of harassment, SL Navy release videos of Indian fishermen crossing maritime border

The Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday released a video of fishermen crossing the maritime border after they were accused of harassing Indian fishermen. In recent months, the fishermen’s communities in Tamil Nadu have often accused the Sri Lankan Navy of harassing them under the allegation that they had crossed the maritime border while fishing.

Several fishermen have been arrested and their boats seized, leading to unrest in fishing communities in Ramanathapuram and Nagapattinam districts. Fishermen have accused the Lankan Navy of surrounding, assaulting and chasing them away using force.

However, the Sri Lankan Navy recently released a video showing Indian fishermen crossing the border and fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Instruments on the Lankan Navy’s patrol vessels show that Indian fishermen had crossed the border.Indian media reported that responding to Sri Lanka Navy’s , fishermen from Ramanathapuram have stated that they were unaware of the location while they were fishing at sea.
