Afghanistan take lead in rain-hit opener
A superlative bowling display set-up Afghanistan’s early 1-0 lead in the ODI series after they restricted Bangladesh to sub-par 169/9 in the rain-hit opener despite Towhid Hridoy’s fifty. In a game already reduced to 43-overs-a-side affair, Afghanistan’s target was revised to 164 but a third rain interruption in the chase meant curtains for the game with the tourists 17 runs ahead on the DLS.
Brief scores:
Bangladesh 169/9 in 43 overs (Towhid Hridoy 51; Fazalhaq Farooqi 3-24, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman 2-23, Rashid Khan 2-21) lost to Afghanistan 83/2 in 21.4 overs (Ibrahim Zadran 41*; Shakib al Hasan 1-9) by 17 runs (DLS method: Match reduced to 43 overs per side due to rain)
