Admiral Ravi W receives diplomatic appointment
Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne has received appointment as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Islamabad. The former Navy Commander is the only Sri Lankan awarded the Nishan-e-Imitiyaz medal by Pakistan.
The one-time Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) succeeded Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrema. At the time Wijegunaratne received the top diplomatic appointment, he served as Managing Director, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
The government has named a decorated Special Forces officer retired Colonel Darshana Ratnayake as Wijegunaratne’s successor, at the CPC.
The outgoing CPC MD told The Island that he and his team had been able to turn around the loss-making CPC into a profit-making State Institution this year after having taken over the enterprise on 14 February this year.
The Admiral declared that with Rs 73 billion net profit (which includes 100 million in USD) as at 28 July, the CPC could move forward. The outspoken retired officer said that this was a record for the CPC in the last five decades. (SF)
