ADB enlists experts to aid Sri Lanka’s electricity sector reform

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is aiding Sri Lanka’s electricity sector reform by enlisting the expertise of professionals, Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Power and Energy, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (23).

The Minister said Dr. Pankaj Batra, former Chairman of India’s Central Electricity Authority, Prof. Arosha Adikaram from the University of Colombo, and ADB Executive Consultant Debasis Mohapatra are contributing to this initiative.

The Cabinet-of-Ministers recently approved a Bill for electricity sector reforms on November 21, he said.ADB has been at the forefront of the electricity sector reforms in Sri Lanka.

Improving the performance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to minimize losses and liabilities is vital for Sri Lanka’s recovery and long-term growth, Takafumi Kadono, the Country Director of ADB’s Sri Lanka Resident Mission, said, in Colombo, in September.
