…Down Under!

Sri Lankans, Down Under, are already working on a whole lot of showbiz events, for 2023.

In Melbourne, in particular, they have already made January and February busy months, where entertainment is concerned.

A big, much-look-forward-to event is, undoubtedly, the memorial concert for the late Desmond de Silva, one of the finest entertainers we have ever had..

Age was no barrier where Desmond was concerned; at 77+, he lit up the stage the moment he was in the spotlight, and there was never ever a dull moment for the audience.

In honour of this great artiste, a tribute concert and dinner dance will be held on 11th February, in Sydney, showcasing the music of Desmond’s musical journey – from The Spitfire, The Jetliners and Desmond & The Clan, to Foreign Affair (UK), Replay 6, Desmond & The Impressions, and the baila king himself, via hologram.

Several Sri Lankan artistes will make their appearance at ‘Honouring the Legend Desmond de Silva’.

Billed to appear are Mignonne and Suraj, Melantha Perera, Mariazelle, Corrine, Sohan Weerasinghe, Sohan Pieris, Christo Mant, Andre Martinesz, Rohan Dias and William Rezel, Ronnie Boustead and Laurensz Manricks, and many more, the organisers say.

In the meanwhile, The Marians will be celebrating their 35th Anniversary with a tour that would take them to Australia and New Zealand.

They have six dates in Australia – 04th February, Perth; 11th February and 25th March, Melbourne; 04th March, Adelaide; 11th March, Brisbane; and 18th March, Sydney.

The Sri Lankans, in Brisbane, have already finalised plans for their Valentine Dinner Dance, with Infinity and Wasthi, on 10th February, Brisbane, and on 18th February, in Sydney.

‘Autumn Breeze,’ a dinner dance, will be held, in Sydney, on 4th March, and will have Corrine, and The Redeemers, providing the music.

Sohan Weerasinghe, too, will be in the spotlight, in a big way, with the Australian-Sri Lankans.

In addition to his performance at the Desmond de Silva tribute concert and dinner dance, he will also do his thing at ‘Hearts Afire’, a sing-along event to be held on 18th February, in Sydney, along with Mariazelle, TJ and Melantha.

‘Hearts Afire’, according to the organisers, is a fun-raiser for the social projects of Influence Church Blacktown, “responding to our needy brothers and sisters, in Sri Lanka”.

While our entertainers have a busy lineup of events, Down Under, Dubai, too, will see some of them in action this month.

On 28th January, ‘Golden Oldies of the 70s’ will feature Annesley Malawana, Corrine, Rajiv Sebastian, Indrani Perera, Anil Bhareti, Vernon, and the band Downtown, at the Jumeirah Creekside, in Dubai.
