A wrong Catholic message?

Published

on

Residents of Negombo were enraged this morning Oct 31, to be woken at 4am by a maximum volume barrage of Catholic Masses broadcast from tannoy speakers erected on lamp posts throughout the city, especially the beachside tourist zone. One super-loud mass after another, all day long.

This was the culmination of a week of the same, starting at 5pm and lasting for four hours. Loudest in their condemnation were many Catholic residents
themselves, who fear that it is alienating them from the predominantly Buddhist community, and causing them to question their own faith. Is
this how the Roman Catholic Church chooses to send its message of respect, tolerance, inclusivity and brotherly love?
