My Dearest Sir, Guru and Mentor, Called to Rest!

Called to Rest! – Indeed words that truly befit a lifelong worker, one whose attitude towards work and service surpassed any that I have seen during my life.

To say that whatever good there is in me as a clinician is thanks to this amazing human being, my first and most cherished guru in the art of Medicine is the least I could say, with a heart filled with gratitude.

Most, if not all, who came under his eye to learn the ropes of this noble art, were impacted in no little way by his sheer clinical skill, acumen, and manner, which was still surpassed I feel by his utter wholesomeness as a magnificent human being.

Never an unkind word nor even a criticism for the worst mess-ups done by another. He held on robustly to his ideal of doing the best he can, gently, effectively and perhaps with a well-placed comment to spur things the right way.

Such love shown to the many who poured into the ward or clinic in an incessant stream of human complaint, worry and concern could hardly be believed.

In spite of the busyness, the rush, he made it a point to ensure the most vulnerable, the most anxious were spoken to in the most encouraging manner, so much so a word of jest would often bring a smile upon their faces, bring a moment of relief from whatever ailment which they suffered.

How quickly he stood up with hands clasped in respect for each and every elderly mother or father who came in to see him, showing enormous love and respect to all patients. A most uplifting sight to see was this great in the field of medicine bowing down to the poor and humble patients, establishing loud and clear that his was the duty to serve and the privilege too was his.

Not one patient left his presence without feeling happier, lighter and better. This man, truly a giant amongst the many who taught us, taught with much love and much respect towards his students as he did to his patients. Yes, he will truly leave a void that no man could fill.

His loving advice “Never say No to someone who asks you a favour, regardless of its justification” rings oft in my mind whenever I have the opportunity to oblige another.

His full beaming smile which he shone upon us, his ever strong but gentle manner will be unsurpassed.

Rest Dear Sir..you have Indeed run a Great race!
