A technical explanation on L.P. Gas and its composition
As an importer of LPG to the country, LAUGFS Gas follows the standards published by the Sri Lanka Standards Institute and LAUGFS Gas PLC has its LPG specifications accordingly. LAUGFS Gas PLC has never released LPG with low standards.
Composition of LPG is used according to the temperature zones and in a range of Propane / Butane: 30% / 70% is used in Sri Lanka accordingly. Mostly 100% Propane is used in ice-forming cold countries. LAUGFS Gas PLC uses LPG with average composition of Propane / Butane: 30% / 70% in Sri Lanka. LAUGFS Gas PLC has never released LPG with composition of Propane / Butane: 50% / 50%. There is no truth in the statements that LAUGFS Gas PLC violates the standards stipulated by Sri Lanka Standards Institute. It is the responsibility of Gas Companies to ensure the standards of LP Gas cylinders and LAUGFS Gas PLC ensures the same properly and use the standards stipulated by Sri Lanka Standard Institute.
It is the duty of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute and other relevant State Institutions to define the composition of ingredients and properties of LPG and monitor compliance.
In certain occasions, some have declared LPG-related incidents are caused by bursts of LPG cylinders but in reality, there is no single incident of such burst of LPG cylinders in recent history in Sri Lanka. Most of the incidents are caused by a lack of knowledge by LPG consumers and improper usage. Some media and personals have declared the opinion of the LPG tank as a bomb and it is a misleading concept. This is known by technical experts who are knowledgeable on the behaviour of LPG.
It is revealed by LAUGFS Gas PLC and other State institutions in their investigations that the root cause for domestic and industrial LPG-related incidents is the lack of awareness of proper usage of LP Gas and malpractices followed.
A process of making consumers aware by conducting programs and by distributing leaflets is practiced by LAUGFS Gas PLC all over the country. It will be highly supportive to the society to protect from LP Gas incidents if the State Institutions and media implement and effectively contribute to such awareness programs.
