A Cabinet sub-committee under the chairmanship of the President should be established to address obstacles and limitations arising in the implementation of the agriculture modernization program- Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake
Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake briefing President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the progress review meeting of the Agriculture Modernization Program, convened at the Presidential Secretariat recently stressed the need for establishing a Cabinet Sub-Committee under the Chairmanship of the President to address various obstacles and limitations arising in the implementation of the agriculture modernization program.
Professor Senanayake said that implementation of the Agriculture Modernization Program should elevate agriculture to a commercial level, safeguard agro-biodiversity and promote land ownership among individuals involved in agricultural activities. He said that Rs 25 million each had been allocated to 26 selected Divisional Secretaries Divisions across all 25 districts in the island for Agricultural modernization projects and that project proposals had been received from all.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed the relevant officials to initiate the 26 related projects promptly.
