SL stands very good chance of attracting investments for renewable energy projects: German Ambassador

As the beginning of the end of fossil fuels has definitely started across the world and Sri Lanka has the renewable energy resource potential backed with the government’s policy framework to enhance the share of national grid renewables, the country stands a very good chance of attracting foreign investments and partnerships for renewable energy projects, the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Holger Seubert said addressing a virtual meeting yesterday.
” Sri Lanka has an ambitious plan of 100% electricity generation through renewable energy by 2050 as an important signal for accelerated climate action and it has ideal conditions to achieve it. As Germany has already left its niche in Renewables, it can partner with Sri Lanka in this exercise on a long term fruitful cooperation,” the German Ambassador said.
The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) led by Andreas Hergenröther. hosted this “German – Sri Lankan Virtual Conference on Energy Efficiency and Self-sufficiency in Industry” where State Minister Duminda Disanayake also spoke among other industry leaders here in Sri Lanka and Germany.
Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and within the framework of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, the conference was part of an AHK Trade Mission to Sri Lanka comprising eight German companies that have expressed strong interest in the Sri Lankan market.
During the virtual conference, eight German companies presented their technologies and energy solutions with the objective to establish long-lasting partnerships with industry representatives and public authorities from Sri Lanka.
State Minister of Solar, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development Duminda Dissanayake said he would value the German cooperation in this regard and would wish to meet with the German companies for collaboration as the pandemic tapers off.
The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) proudly facilitated the first-ever Sri Lankan delegation’s participation at Drupa 2024, the world’s largest trade fair for the printing industry and technology. Held after an eight-year hiatus, Drupa 2024 was a landmark event, marking significant advancements and opportunities in the global printing industry.
AHK Sri Lanka played a pivotal role in organising and supporting the delegation, which comprised 17 members from the Sri Lanka Association for Printers (SLAP), representing eight companies from the commercial, newspaper, stationery printing, and packaging industries. This pioneering effort by AHK Sri Lanka not only showcased the diverse capabilities of Sri Lanka’s printing sector but also facilitated vital bilateral discussions with key stakeholders from the German printing industry.
