National Chamber to conduct one-day workshop on import procedures & documentation
A full day workshop on import procedures & documentation will be held on April 26 2023 from 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the National Chamber Auditorium, 450, D R Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.The course provides a perfect understanding of imports for new staff, and a comprehensive revision to experienced staff to get updated with latest procedures and understanding of day-to-day work related to imports. The Resource Person will be T Raviendrarajah, Former Director of Customs with over 37 years of experience at the Sri Lanka Customs in various departments.
Contents of the presentation are as follows:
Introduction to Goods Importation, Imports Planning, Determining Import Requirements, Introduction to International Business/Trade, Sales Contracts, Import Restrictions, Terms of Sale, Incoterms – Purpose and Scope, Payment Terms and agreements: a review of the impact of each type (including Letter of Credit and Document Collections) on import payments, The Impact of the Global and Local Economic Crisis on Sri Lanka Customs: a brief discussion on the challenges faced by Sri Lanka Customs Department and the latest rules and regulations introduced by the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank on Goods Importation., Customs Imports Procedures and Documentation: Classification of Import Documents, Clearance of Commercial Cargo through Customs – Sea Cargo and Air Cargo, Free Trade Agreements, Introduction to HS Nomenclature 2022 Edition, WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), View Procedures- Sri Lanka Trade Information Portal
The target audience will be who are involved in importing, sourcing goods from overseas, including sales, purchasing, production and accounts staff. It also provides a good overview necessary for Senior Managers who are delegating responsibilities.
