54 deaths from pandemic yesterday, highest in single day

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 yesterday jumped to 54, the highest increase in a single day.

According to the Government Information Department, the victims were 32 males and 22 females. The overall death toll in the country so far from the pandemic surged to 1,844.

Some 558 new cases of Covid-19 were reported from the Gampaha District yesterday.

Health officials said  80 cases had been detected in the Dompe MOH area, 60 each from Attanagalla and Negombo, 57 in Biyagama and 49 in Wattala and Katana.

Meanwhile, another consignment of one million Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine doses was received yesterday, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.
