50 percent of Lankans suffer from Vitamin D deficiency

About 50 percent of Sri Lankans suffer from Vitamin D deficiency, Consultant Endocrinologist at the Colombo South Teaching Hos, said.This was found in a recent study and it is a surprise given that Sri Lanka is a tropical country, she said.
“Vitamin D is also a hormone and the lack of it also causes a lot of problems. You can easily get Vitamin D through morning sunlight. This is at no cost and the best way to get Vitamin D,” she said.Dr. Widanage added that 30 minutes of sun exposure, thrice a week, would fix anyone’s Vitamin D deficiency.
