360 new coronavirus cases detected in Gampaha

More than 360 Covid-19 cases were reported from the Gampaha district yesterday, according to the District Health Services Director’s Office spokesperson.

The highest number of patients was reported from Divulapitiya area (73) followed by 61 from Mahara, 39 from Biyagama, 38 from Dompe, 29 from Seeduwa, 20 from Ragama, 18 each from Gampaha and Minuwangoda and 16 from Mirigama.

Of the 511 beds in the six treatment centres in the Gampaha district, 461 were occupied by yesterday.

Police have arrested nearly 200 people for violating the health regulations.

Police spokesperson  DIG Ajith Rohana yesterday said, “Since October 30, 2020, to date 5248 people have been arrested for violating quarantine regulations.”

A special gazette notification in respect of COVID-19 quarantine regulations was published on 15 November  2020, and the provisions thereof were enforced from October 30, 2020.

Whilst emphasising that new COVID-19 guidelines had been published by the Director-General of Health Services (DGHS) on May 1, 2021, Attorney-at-Law DIG Rohana urged the people to follow COVID-19 health regulations properly.
