28th commemoration of war heroes killed at Araly Point

The 28th commemoration of war heroes killed at Arali Point in Jaffna was marked on Saturday with the participation of Army, Navy and Air Force.

On that fateful day, 28 years ago, Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa, Maj. Gen. Wijaya Wimalaratne, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Lt. Col. H.R Stephen, Lt. Col. G.H. Ariyaratne, Lt. Col. Y.N Palipana, Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lt. Col. Nalin de Alwis, Lt. Commander. C.B. Wijepura and Private W.J. Wickremasinghe were killed in a mine blast, Organized by the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J), the 28th death anniversary ceremony was headed by Maj Gen Ruwan Wanigasooriya.

In the Anuradhapura town, a military ceremony was held to commemorate the war heroes. The SLA Seva Vanitha Unit with the participation of Lali Kobbekaduwa, the wife of late Lt. Gen. Kobbekaduwa held a special Bodhi Pooja.
