A total 273 Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses overhauled at a cost of Rs. 115 million were reintroduced for passenger transport at a ceremony under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at Galle Face Green on Thursday.

The buses were earlier taken out of service as they were in a run-down condition, but were repaired to be used again for passenger transport.

They will be re-injected into the fleet to meet passenger transport needs particularly in rural areas in the country, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The project, based on a concept of State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services, Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry Dilum Amunugama was implemented under the guidance of Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge.
