The 2021 awards season is in full swing. With the end of the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild awards, it was time for the critics to weigh in and honour the best and brightest in both film and television. The 26th Critics Choice Award was held on the March 7 with acclaimed film, television, and stage star Taye Diggs returning to host for the third consecutive time. The Critics Choice Awards are bestowed annually to honour the finest in cinematic and television achievement. Historically, they are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award nominations.

‘Nomadland’ secured its position with a total win of four awards as frontrunner for the Oscars and ‘The Crown’ confirmed its dominance of the TV awards, following their multiple wins at the Golden Globes. ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ took home three awards and placed second. The late Chadwick Boseman won the award for best actor for his role as trumpeter Levee Green in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.’

Actress Zendaya was honoured with the ‘SeeHer Award’, making her the fifth recipient of the special award that recognizes a woman who embodies the values set by the SeeHer movement, which advocates for accurate portrayals of women and girls in advertising and media.
