2024 Ministry of Defence budget head approved with 68-vote majority in Parliament

During the second day of the Committee Stage discussions on the 2024 Appropriation Bill, the Ministry of Defence’s budget allocation (103) was subject to debate and successfully passed with a significant 68-vote majority.

At approximately 6:00 pm, following the deliberations, G. G. Ponnambalam, Member of Parliament representing the All Ceylon Tamil Congress, called for a division on the Ministry of Defence budget head. Subsequently, 76 votes were cast in favour of its approval, while eight votes were registered against it.
