Where’s Opposition in Covid control?
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa polled 6,924,255 (52.25%) at the last presidential election and the current Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa 5,564,239 (41.99%).
In the Presidential Task Force, set up to fight Covid-19, we don’t see any Opposition representative.
That is why Premadasa, Ranil Wickremesinghe and other Opposition MPs are protesting, on TV. The Opposition must be represented there.
Therefore, it is prudent to give them also an opportunity to voice their suggestions at the Task Force meetings, instead of their criticism at press conferences. To satisfy the 41.99 % of public voters, it is fair and square to appoint a few from their side also, to be part of the Task Force. This will make the government efforts more genuine and will transparent and silence the Opposition as well.
