SLFP, too, opposes surcharge tax on EPF, ETF

In the wake of Labour Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Senior Vice President of the SLFP declaring his opposition to the proposed surcharge tax on EPF and ETF in Parliament, SLFP Propaganda Secretary, Shantha Bandara, MP, yesterday said the party was totally opposed to the move.

The party’s Central and Administrative Committees would meet soon after former President and party leader, Maithripala Sirisena returned to discuss the matter. These committees would decide on what to do, the MP said.

Alleging that successive governments had mismanaged both the EPF and ETF funds, MP Bandara said that remedial measures were necessary.
