Senanayake passes away
Former Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Anura Senanayake passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. He was 68.
A father of two.
Anura Senanayake joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1973 as a Sub Inspector. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector eight years later. In 1985, he received a promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector.
Over the years, he served as the OIC of Weerangula, Veyangoda, Kilinochchi, Ragama, Welikada and Mirihana police stations.
Senanayake also held the post of State Information Officer in Colombo, Mount Lavinia, Batticaloa, Chilaw, Polonnaruwa and Jaffna.
He was appointed the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division in 2008 and was promoted to the rank of Senior DIG in December 2011. He had requested his family members that his funeral be held within 24 hours of his demise.
