Johnston files writ application to prevent his arrest

Sri Lanka Podu Jana Permuna Member of Parliament for Kurunegala District Johnston Fernando has filed a Writ Application in the Court of Appeal, seeking a mandatory order on the police and the CID to prevent his arrest, in respect of the Galle Face violence of May 9, 2022.
The Fort Magistrate has already imposed a travel ban on Johnston Fernando.
It is claimed that around 230 peaceful protestors had been injured in an attack by a group allegedly led by Johnston Fernando and some others. The injured persons had been hospitalised.
Meanwhile, Johnston Fernando is indicted in the High Court of Colombo, under the Bribery and Corruption Act’. Five petitions have been filed under the aforesaid Act.
